Cocoa ACCT-A-80470 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to Medical concerns. Cocoa must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Wednesday, June 30th, at 5:30pm. Should Cocoa's medical status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Cocoa is an adult female dog that has been in foster care for some time. Unfortunately Cocoa began experiencing seizures in the past 24 hours and would benefit from immediate placement to provide medical diagnostics and management that can not be provided at the shelter. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. If you are an adopter interested in this pet you must connect with a rescue partner willing to pull on your behalf. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. Cocoa ACCT-A-80470 Meet Cocoa! This 1 year old pup could be your forever sweetheart! Toys: No interest Color Level: Blue 2/3 (Per Adopter) -- Playful, Separation Anxiety. Tried to bite fianc last night but did not break skin and also tried to bite when they tried to lay down. 12/30/20 (Per Foster) -- Cocoa is one of a kind. She is completely comfortable to sit on her foster moms lap all day while she works from home. This has become a challenge because Cocoa is a big girl, and snores like an older gentleman. Cocoa loves pets, and will let you know when she needs loving by nudging your arm or knee with her nose. She has opened up to running outside with her foster sister. Cocoa was a little nervous to be outside due to the loud noises, and would need lots of encouragement to focus on her potty task. Cocoa is not house broken, and is learning to potty outside. Cocoa has discovered Christmas trees, and all the cool things she can pull off. She doesn't break the items, but pulls them gently off and sits them on the floor. Maybe she doesn't like the placement. Cocoa has also decided she loves bananas, sweet potatoes, and carrots. She takes them very gently when they are offered to her. Cocoa does not like loud noises, and will do her doggie bark to let you know she is unhappy. Usually, I can calm her down with cuddles, but that sometimes takes a while to take affect. 12/8/20 (Per Staff) -- Kennel Presentation: Easy to leash/social - Initially when approached, Cocoa was sitting nervously near the kennel door, ears back, whale eyeing. When I talked to her and opened the door, she approached me with her tail wagging slightly and sniffed me, then let me leash her without issue. On return to kennel, Cocoa would not enter the kennel even when I entered first and encouraged her to follow. She is very food motivated but wouldn't enter the kennel for treats, so I had to lift her back in. Leash Skills: Pulls Minimally On Leash - Overall walks well on the leash with occasional pulling. Handleability: Loose/Allows all handling - Once out of the kennel Cocoa became very loose and wiggly. I sat on the bench and she climbed up into my lap, gave kisses and solicited tons of attention. Another dog passed by the run, and Cocoa approached the fence with her tail wagging and ears perked up, showing some interest, but did not become excited or fixate. She allows allover handling and is extremely friendly and social. After I'd had her out for about 15 minutes she did begin getting overaroused and began jumping and mouthing at my hands. Tag: Engages in play Toys: Interest but does not take possession - Will chase toys when thrown but only slight interest in them. Is very food motivated! Color Level: Blue 12/7/20 (Per Previous Owner/Surrenderer) -- sweet, loving, very cuddly, very friendly, somewhat playful. Pulls a little on leash. Bite Details: (2/3) Tried to bite owner's fianc -- Gets jealous and over protective and got reactive towards owner's fianc when they were getting intimate and slightly bit owner when he tried to stop her. Attacked owners during another instance when they were getting intimate. "We tried keeping her in another room but with her separation anxiety she freaks out and destroys things. I'm heartbroken and really thought this would work out when I thought she just needed a little training but she needs a lot and has become too much, for my fiance especially, and she reached her limit with the attacking. " (12/30/20) Bit owner's child -- "We were in the dining room and Cocoa was under the table. She had a toy near by but I don't believe was playing. Our toddler walked by, apparently too close to the toy, and she lunged and bit his hand. She did it a second time, but we don't think she actually bit him the second time. He jumped into our arms and she jumped up. She seems very curious, but we feared that even a curious dog could cause significant harm, even if not intentionally aggressive. Otherwise, she would get riled up when he'd make noise, we'd pick him up or he'd be playing on the floor. There was no growling or warning signals that we noticed. The only time we saw a warning was when she was chewing on a flip and I walked by, she growled at me. She is very food motivated and runs anytime someone goes into the kitchen." The adopter has noticed some resource guarding behaviors that appear to have led to the bite incident. Owner stated she has been domineering over their toddler and bit him. The bite did not penetrate skin, but left a mark. "I really do think she would be a good dog for adults and maybe a family with older kids, but the little guy is too much for her. It seems like she's too dominant to live with a small child without significant behavioral training which we provide" (12/7/20) Bit a neighbor's child -- The owner explained that he had walked into the home holding the child, Cocoa became over-aroused and excited, and jumped up and bit the child's leg. He said she did not show any aggression before or after the bite, she just seemed really excited and overstimulated, and she is a puppy so she got mouthy. However, the neighbors are making him get rid of her due to the incident.
